Kim Bong Carpentry Village: Kim Bong is a village in Cam Kim commune, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province in Central Vietnam, where a famous handicraft named Kim Bong Carpentry was established. It is located in the lower right bank of Thu Bon river that flows through Hoi An before emptying into the sea.
From the Kim Bong Village, looking across the Hoai river is the ancient town of Hoi An. This is a very convenient location not only because it is not far from the urban centre, but also it is very easy in transporting materials by waterway to develop the industries of local people.
History of the Kim Bong Carpentry Village in Hoi An:
Carpentry of the Kim Bong Village originated from the North. Through the exchange process, Kim Bong carpenters have acquired some quintessence of Cham People (See Also Champa Kingdom), Chinese, Japanese sculptural traditions etc combined with their skillful. The product is full of art and philosophy. The village is very famous for its carpentry because most of the ancient architecture and crafts of Hoi An ancient town were built and made by the talented hands of their ancestors.
Best Things to Do in Kim Bong Carpentry Village:
You can visit the carpentry workshop with countless unique artefacts such as: The clove carved 1,000 dragons made of bamboos or the image of Hoi An Bridge Pagoda cast by skillful hands of Kim Bong people. It’s so hard to be mixed with any other traditional villages.
Hoi An has a unique architectural beauty, which is the inspiration of the ancient Moc Kim Bong villagers. From familiar images, close to human life such as: buffaloes, farmers, bamboo trees, boats or other household appliances. All are carved by simple patterns, floral motifs, the cultural richness of Hoi An people.
Going around Moc Kim Bong Wood Carving Village, visitors will also see the west of the village specializing in fine arts. And the East built ships. Most of the boats coming to Hoi An dock area due to the talented hands of shipbuilders with sculpted and extremely delicate carvings.
Besides, visitors can visit carpentry workshops to directly learn how to make a finished product. You can also experience the “carpenter” moment is also a great idea! Visitors can visit the souvenir stalls of the people here close to each other with many products made from wood from the village itself.
Especially, coming to Kim Bong Carpentry Village, visitors also have the opportunity to stroll through a small poetic riverside fishing village right next to the carpentry village. As a small fishing village and isolated from the rest of Hoi An, little is known, but the scenery here is amazing.

How to Get to Kim Bong Carpentry Village from Hoi An?
Kim Bong Carpentry Village is located on the other side of Hoai River, opposite to Hoi An ancient town. So it only takes about 10 minutes to get here by boat from Hoi An Old Twon. Move by boat from the old town wharf to the south, the Bach Dang road along the river and then go to Hoi An – Cam Kim ferry. And then, you will take a short walk and see Moc Kim Bong village.
Or you can also get the bike or motorbike through the Cam Kim Bridge longer than 620m north across the Thu Bon River. You go more than 3 km, follow that bridge and then you can find the Kim Bong carpentry village
When is the Best Time to Visit Kim Bong Carpentry Village?
The best time to visit Kim Bong Carpentry Village in Hoi An is from around February to April, when the weather is almost no rain at this time and quite pleasant temperature as well.
The weather in Hoi An has two distinct seasons each year, the rainy season Southwest from August to December and the dry season from January to July every year. Sometimes depending on the weather each year there may be cold spells but not too cold and last long.
