Ho Chi Minh City: Urgent Notice Regard to Buddha Bar Outbreak

Information from the Ministry of Health on March 26 said that there has been one more case-related illness at Buddha Bar, bringing the total number of SARS-CoV-2 infections here to 9 (previous cases). including: 91, 97, 98, 120, 124, 125,126, 127).

The new case with positive test result is a 27-year-old female from Vietnam, living in Tay Thanh Ward, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City. This is the 152nd case of Covid-19 in Vietnam.

Buddha Bar & Grill became an outbreak causing 9 people infected with Covid-19

The patient is the sister who lives in the same house with patient 127 (male employee of Bar Buddha). The patient works at Formica Company - 3rd floor, 414 Building Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ward 5, District 3. Every day, the patient goes to work office hours and from 10 to 14/3 patients have close contact with 4 colleagues, March 19 met with a partner at the company.

From March 15 to March 18, the patient went to many places and contacted a few people: March 15 to the parents' home in Tan Binh district, March 17 for lunch with two friends at the Sen vegetarian restaurant (district). 1) March 18 close contact with a delivery person.

On March 20, when he learned about the Bar Buddha Bar & Grill - where his brother had a case of Covid-19 case, the patient quit work, isolated himself at home and was approached and monitored by the ward Health Station.

On March 23, the patient was sampled and after the positive test, he was transferred to concentrated isolation at Covid-19 Can Gio Treatment Hospital. The company where the patient works is temporarily suspended.

As reported, on March 14th, a party was held at Buddha Bar & Grill (7 Thao Dien Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City). With nine confirmed positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 and many suspected high-level infections, the city identified this as a chain of disease transmission, risking further detection of more cases.

Emergency cuts off the chain of infection:

To control the situation, cut off this chain of infection as well as prevent infection in the community, on the afternoon of March 26, the City Disease Control Center has issued an urgent notice suggesting customers who have been to Buddha Bar. from 13 to 17/3 implementation of measures to prevent Covid-19.

Specifically, people who have ever been to the Bar have not shown signs of illness such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc., must also contact the local health facility for health checks and instructions to prevent infection. If there are signs of illness such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, see a physician to wear a mask and honestly report the connection with the Buddha Bar.

If there are signs of illness but have not seen a doctor, wear a mask, contact a local health facility immediately to come to support health checks and implement measures to prevent infection, which can lead to medical facilities. If necessary, provide medical testing. Call the district Health Center or the City Center for Disease Control for assistance.

On the same day, the Department of Health, Ho Chi Minh City had a meeting with District 2 People's Committee about cases related to Buddha Bar. At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Huu Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Health urgently led cases of visitors to the Buddha's shop to the isolation area and took samples for testing. In particular, these quarantined people must be isolated in a separate room. Mobilize all forces, including the mobilization of other districts and other units of the city to support the sampling. Places and condominiums have been blockaded. After obtaining test results, they should be reviewed and evaluated to remove the blockade.

On March 26, there were three more high-risk cases of Covid-19 infection involving the Buddha Bar. The Department of Health requests the concerned units to pay special attention to and implement preventive measures related to this outbreak.

Authorities have identified 97 guests with addresses in District 2 who had been to Buddha Bar & Grill at a high risk of infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will continue to post information on the outbreak to get feedback from the residents as well as continue to update information about customers who have been here.
