44 new caves found in Phong Nha

The research team has identified coordinates and background information on 44 new caves in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park area, Quang Binh province of Vietnam

On the morning of August 7, the director of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, Le Thanh Tnh said that the new caves were found mainly in the northwest of the National Park. Of the 44 newly discovered caves, there are 33 cave caves in the communes of Hoa Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa, Thuong Hoa (Minh Hoa district). Son Trach district (Bo Trach district) found 9 new caves. The remaining caves belong to Truong Son and Truong Xuan communes (Quang Ninh district).

44 new caves are located in 6 different geological layers: La Khe, Bac Son, Mu Gia, Cat Dang, Mieu and Le Ninh. Most of the cave is located in La Khe and Bac Son. These are also two large-scale and ancient geological age in Phong Nha Ke Bang. The new cave is located at an altitude of 44 to 602 m above sea level. The average height is from 200 to 300 m.

Found in caves divided into four basic types: rocket stalactites and rock cascades, dispersed stalactites, stalactites produced by the flow of water, stalactites due to the accumulation of minerals.

The research team of the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park Management Board has access to the store and has identified location and preliminary information on 44 new caves. The team said that they would investigate and study in depth to clarify the value and make accurate judgments in exploiting and preserving the landscape of these caves.
